For those of you familiar with Twitter, you'll no-doubt be aware of the paid-for opportunities the social network provides via the 'Promoted Tweets', 'Promoted Trends' and 'Promoted Accounts' platforms. At present, these opportunities are available on a global level and are managed via the US sales team.
Within the next 4-8 weeks, Twitter expects to provide the UK with its own promoted platforms and is currently hard at work negotiating deals with media agencies in order to attract marketing spend from brands already active in the social arena. Those brands include the likes of O2, Vodafone, Sky and Sony.
Over the last 12 months, Twitter has made a concerted effort to establish itself within the UK market. Shiva Rajaraman, Project Manager at Twitter, came to the UK in September last year and Tony Wang, from the San Francisco office, also moved to the UK in recent months in order to set up the UK headquarters.
It will be interesting to see exactly how the UK market reacts to country-specific advertising on Twitter as the company is also rumoured to have plans to launch more specific region-based advertising opportunities.
