We're all aware that social media now occupies a pretty big online space, with more and more people setting up profiles on the likes of Facebook and Twitter. Whilst Facebook is deemed reasonably self explanatory across the board, many struggled to 'get' Twitter initially, but having given it a go, the masses seem to keep flooding to use the platform in order to connect with friends, family, colleagues and business associates.
Time to take your business online?
Taking your business online can be a challenging task, but when you make the move, it is important that you embrace social media and all it has to offer. Whilst it has become a fast moving channel, and can present somewhat of a challenge to break into, it is sure to provide you with a return if managed correctly.
Can you afford to ignore social media anymore?
The fact is, social media is becoming difficult to ignore in terms of a marketing channel. Statisticians from Nielsen report that as of April 2010, social media platforms accounted for 22% of all time spent online. With this in mind, if you fail to take advantage of social media, you'll be cutting your reach by almost a quarter before you even start.
Still not convinced?
If you're still not convinced of the potential social media has over business, remember that it is likely to continue growing as the world wide web becomes a more sociable space. Search engines have evolved and have changed the way they index content, in order to keep up with real-time platforms such as Twitter. Google and many of the other search engines are peppered with blog and news posts, as well as status updates and tweets. What's more, three quarters of global consumers who go online, spend time on social media sites, and this total has increased by a massive 24% in the space of a year. I've no doubt that it will increase further over the next 12 months.
