Many of you may be familiar with the latest social networking phenomenon, Twitter, and will have used it to connect with your mates. Others, may well have heard of this alternate social networking tool, but fail to see the potential which it holds.
We frequently hear of people trying to understand how Twitter can be of benefit to them, and further, how anyone can find writing 140 characters worth of information about what they are doing at any given time of value. What's the point? You can't do anything else. With Facebook and MySpace you can add photos, chat, and so much more. Why would anyone want to use Twitter?
Simply put, Twitter is so much more than just a status updating facility. It allows businesses to find, target and communicate with potential clients and other businesses, allows for a stronger brand to be built around your organisation and more recently, has been highlighted as the future of Search Marketing.
If you haven't already, we recommend that you register for an account on Twitter as soon as possible. Further, your account should be registered under your brand/company name so that nobody else can 'tweet' using your identity.
As an added bonus, you may wish to assign your employees with corporate Twitter accounts (such as 'TomAtZulu'), allowing them to communicate under a recognised name - building their identity as well as that of the business.
Finding your customers is the next stage, and the Twitter Search facility allows you to do this pretty easily. By searching your brand name, you can find out exactly who is tweeting about you. You can then provide them with answers to any questions they may have, and inform them that they can keep up-to-date with your business by following you on Twitter. It's all quite simple really!
Remember to give some thought to your tone of voice and what you wish to include within your tweets before you start updating your account.
